SCOUNDREL VISUAL EFFECTS: READY FOR ACTION

Santa Monica, CA (March 1, 2010) – Scoundrel, a new boutique provider of motion picture visual effects, announced today they have opened their Santa Monica facility for business. Founded by four partners with over 40 years of combined experience in the film industry, Scoundrel will provide the highest quality visual effects to productions of all sizes and budgets.

Scoundrel’s four partners, Tom Clary, Nick Lund-Ulrich, Morgan McDermott and Marco Recuay, were formerly members of effects-veteran Jerry Pooler’s team at Digital Dream. While there, they worked with a wide range of clients on feature films ranging in size from low-budget independent releases to multi-million dollar blockbusters. Credits include: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; Ghost Rider; The Nativity Story; Eragon; Wild Hogs; Next; Rush Hour 3; Old Dogs; and The Mist. Their latest and perhaps most stunning achievement was the completion of over 600 shots for upcoming miniseries The Pacific, the sequel to the 2001 mini-series Band of Brothers, which premieres March 14, 2010 on HBO.

Pooler closed Digital Dream in 2009 shortly after work on The Pacific was completed, but he encouraged Clary, Lund-Ulrich, McDermott and Recuay to open a new effects house to continue the legacy he has spent the last 5 years creating.

“These guys are the future of motion picture effects,” said Pooler. “They were my core team and I’m certain they will continue to provide work that I would be proud of. There is no group of people I would rather pass the torch to.”

“Jerry has been a mentor, a teacher and a friend to all of us, and we feel honored to be carrying on the rich tradition that he has built,” said Clary.

By using the most versatile artists and the most state-of-the-art tools, Scoundrel is agile and skilled enough to deliver the best final shot possible on time and within budget. Whether shooting elements that would be too costly or time-consuming to produce digitally or utilizing the newest compositing and 3D technologies in combination with more tried-and-true methods, one of the team’s greatest skills is finding creative solutions that cost less without skimping on quality. Scoundrel’s long menu of offerings includes compositing, 3D integration, fully 3D environments, matte paintings and complicated fix and removal work.
